April is Autism Awareness Month – Tweet it, Share it, (+) it, Pin it!

Autism is something near and dear to our hearts here at Sound Image Entertainment. We have many friends and even family members that are affected by Autism. For those of you that don’t know what Autism is, here is a wonderful description from Autismspeaks.org:

“Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.”

Some scary stats show how that in the 1970′s Autism was 1 in 10,000 children and now it’s 1 in 88 children. That is terrifying. AutismSpeaks.com reports, “By comparison, this is more children than are affected by diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome – combined.”

We here at Sound Image Entertainment want to give back and bring awareness to Autism. It may not be much but every effort counts. For all of our events we book in the month of April we will be giving 10% of our booking fees to AutismSpeaks.org. We hope to bring more education and support in fighting Autism.
