Seth and Tara after being announced

Seth and Tara after being announced by Amyx Photography

Portal-tastic is all we can say! Seth and Tara were so fun to work with. It started with a small idea and grew. Seth and Tara both love the game “Portal” and wanted to incorporate it in small ways. The first thing was their Save the Date, they had Gawker artist Sam Spratt create their art work for their Save the Date. Check out more about it here or become a fan on FB. It really fit their quirky personalities.

They had so many fun things, some of our favorites were their boutonnieres. They had hand made paper bouquets and comic book boutonnieres, we loved it! The more we talked to them the more we tied the game into their wedding.  We incorporated the finale song at the end of the game into their recessional. Just a small instrumental part that is actually beautiful and those that understood it was from the game had a chuckle, others just enjoyed it. Before the ceremony they had passed out rocks as guests entered and during the ceremony they gathered them. Here is a excerpt from their actual ceremony (they wrote it all themselves) in regards to the rocks:

“Before you met, your lives were on different paths with different destinations. But love has brought you together and joined these separate paths into one. Each one of your friends and family here today have been given a small polished stone that represents their unique individuality and their presence at your wedding today… I will now ask that everyone please take out the stone you have been given and pause to make a wish or blessing for happiness and good will for the couple for the future of their marriage. Now, we will collect the stones and the couple will then add their individual stones to the container as well. With the combining of these stones, you have now symbolically joined your once separate lives.  As the stones have been combined with love into one container, so now are your friends and family joined, through you, into one. And your once solitary life’s paths are also now one. All that was once separate is now shared, and in this sharing you both will find new strength and joy as together you forge a new life path and destination.”

They did a lot of DYI things which we think they pulled off well! Oh the ring pillow was the portal cube, it was awesome too. We did some lighting at their wedding. We choose a soft amber to accent the unique characteristics of the Sequoia Restaurant. This building is filled with so much history and it’s so much more than a restaurant. Tawnia the event coordinator at the Sequoia is a rock star! She was great to work with along with all their wonderful staff; so helpful and kind. The lighting just added a beautiful ambience to the room. That’s why we love ambience lighting so much it can disguise a whole room or just add to the beauty of it. We also provided our photo booth which we customized the print design to tie into the game.

We loved Seth and Tara’s “out of the box” thinking and the quirky uniqueness of their wedding while still staying traditional enough. It fit them and made it “their” wedding. Thank you Seth and Tara for letting us share your special day, we loved working with you and getting to know you and your wonderful families! Also thank you to Kirk of Amyx Photography, Tara’s cousin who was their photographer for all the wonderful pictures!

Jenny and Ian at Croatian American Cultural Center

Watching these two and how in love they are was so amazing. Ian adores Jenny and you see it as he stares at her. Sarah with Sarah Maren Photography captured their love in time. She is one of the funnest photographers to work with. She is so easy going and adds comfort to the bride and groom which is appreciated I am sure. By the end of your wedding you are normally done taking pictures and your face hurts from smiling so much. She just makes it fun and funky, we love that!

Jenny and Ian had Rev. Edward J. Donaghy officiate their wedding. He did great and is very diverse is what he can offer. We really enjoyed working with him and his professionalism. We also did some basic uplighting in purple for them which really pulled in their color scheme. Purple seems to be the color scheme for this year. :) Jenny and Ian were married at the unique Croatian American Cultural Center. Mike there is so detailed oriented and truly wants his clients to enjoy their day. He has put a lot of work in remodeling the already beautiful venue to add so much more for his clients.  The staff there really tries to go above and beyond and are so helpful. We enjoy working there when we get the chance.

So fun ideas they had for the night were the “Shoely Wed Game” where the couple sits back to back with one of each others shoe. Then the DJ asks a question, “Who’s more likely to…” and they hold the shoe up who they think it is. This is always fun when we do this at weddings, they did very well. Also for their garter toss, Ian removed it and put it around a football to throw. That always gets the single guys involved and more determined to catch the garter. We genuinely enjoyed working with them and getting to know them. Jenny was so organized and knew what she wanted and Ian was so supportive and easy going. It’s always a sad time when we finish planning couples weddings and they are over. We don’t get to see them and plan with them. But we are grateful for the memories, every wedding it different and unique in it’s own way.

Tyler and Christine’s Romantic Wedding in Woodland

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

October last year we had the opp0rtunity to be a part of Tyler and Christine’s wedding. The two of them complimented each other perfectly. Tyler is outgoing and go with the flow while Christine was very organized and structured. But the both of them are both goal driven and work very well together. We enjoyed each of our planning meetings with them to help them find the perfect balance so that their wedding fit perfectly for them!

They were married in a beautiful church in Woodland, St Luke’s Episcopal Church. Her sister was married at the same church two months before so we wanted to be sure that we could make her wedding different. We worked out a lighting design with her that added to the decor and her color scheme. It added a romantic ambiance that changed the whole look of the room. The room was nice but simple.

We truly enjoyed them and their family. I couldn’t imagine their parents having to plan two daughter’s weddings in one year but the did it flawlessly. Thank you for letting us share in your special day!

Bryan and Fearon's Wedding by Jodi Yorston Photography

Everything about Bryan and Faren’s November wedding was beautiful. The couple, their family, the decor the love from all the guest. Just every aspect was beautiful! These two were a match made in heaven! They both have wonderful families that love them so much. Dena, Faren’s mom, was great. She worked so hard on their wedding. Bryan and Faren’s wedding took place at the Capitol Plaza Ballrooms, we were able to do some lighting at their wedding as well.

We had lots of musical entertainment throughout the evening. Pamela Pamperin is a extraordinary Harpist. Nothing can beat live entertainment so if you are considering live music check out her website. Her samples are flawless and so beautiful! Bryan’s brother KJ who is a Pastor was able to marry them and be his Best Man. It really can add a special touch having someone so close to you be so much a part of your wedding. Bryan and KJ were in a Quartet growing up so they got to entertain the guests and prepare something special for Faren with their awesome singing abilities during the reception. Bryan sang a song to Faren for his vows. It was so sweet. KJ sang along with Pam during the ceremony for the Unity Candle as well. These two and their friends were fantastic singers. It was truly a magical night.

We had the opportunity to work again with the rockin’ Jodi with Jodi Yorston Photography. We have got to work with her quite a bit this last year and absolute love her. Glad to add her to our list of vendors! She captured the love these two share as if it was a fairy tale.
