Emotions at a wedding is a good thing!

Thanks to Char Beck Photography

We often find ourselves at specific moments at weddings where people try their hardest to make sure they feel no emotion, as if emotions are a bad thing. I remember at a rehearsal a while back, we had a family member reading their passage for the ceremony and she blew right through — reading it as fast as she could so she wouldn’t cry. We told her to slow down, be in the moment, feel what she is reading and it’s ok to cry. There was a huge difference in the overall message she was trying to portray when she read it with emotion, it was meaningful and heartfelt. Think of it as a 5 year old when you force them to say I’m sorry, you can definitely tell when they mean it or not; same goes for this.

First look!

We also had another instance where our groom was getting a little overwhelmed at his wedding before the ceremony and wanted a second before we started. It was a little chilly outside so I understand guests were getting a little cold but I also didn’t want him to feel rushed or forced, it was his day too. At this point I have the Venue Coordinator demanding we start because guests are cold, I explained the grooms situation and she didn’t care and told us to hurry up. I went on to take care of my couple and got him situated and then the bridesmaids and as I was getting ready to head in and grab our bride the Venue Coordinator looked at me as said, “well now she’s crying because you waited too long”. Now because I am professional I didn’t knock her out though I wanted to. Instead I said, “Feeling emotion is ok, this is a big step they are taking and she is feeling it”. I calmly walked up to the bride, instead of being frantic like the Venue Coordinator, and asked her if she was ready to start. She smiled and told me that she was and we walked out together and sent her down the aisle ready and full of commitment to marry this man.

Now we all feel emotions differently and depending on what we are doing, there are times we want different reactions. Whether we play games to pass time and evoke laughter or quiet the room and take a moment as we hear a Maid of Honor toast her best friend. A wedding isn’t an everyday affair, it’s a once in a lifetime, in the moment experience that you want to remember. We remember things by how things make us feel. One of our favorite quotes is by Maya Angelou, “At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.”

We don’t just play music, we live in each moment of your wedding with you and help create feelings and emotions that mold your day and create memories that last a lifetime. Don’t hire a “DJ” for your wedding that thinks his job is to just play music; our job should include so much more than that!

Sound Image Entertainment - Autism AwarenessAutism is something near and dear to our hearts here at Sound Image Entertainment. We have many friends and even family members that are affected by Autism. For those of you that don’t know what Autism is, here is a wonderful description from Autismspeaks.org:

“Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.”

Some scary stats show how that in the 1970’s Autism was 1 in 10,000 children and now it’s 1 in 88 children. That is terrifying. AutismSpeaks.com reports, “By comparison, this is more children than are affected by diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome – combined.”

We here at Sound Image Entertainment want to give back and bring awareness to Autism. It may not be much but every effort counts. For all of our events we book in the month of April we will be giving 10% of our booking fees to AutismSpeaks.org. We hope to bring more education and support in fighting Autism. Please join us in the fight for Autism! If you are not needing to book a DJ, you can always donate your time or money directly to AutismSpeaks.org here.

Sacramento Wrestling Federation ~ The Seth Fengel Benefit Show

This event is dear to my heart since it is on behalf of my brother. Seth is one of the most wonderful, kindest, caring people I know. He loved with all his heart, anyone and everyone. We are excited to be a part of this event to take a day to remember him and raise money for his headstone. All additional proceeds will be going to charity on his behalf. Seth was always giving back to the hospitals to comfort those there since he knew how it felt. He was an amazing example to all of us.

Seth Fengel Benefit Show – Sacramento Wrestling Federation

Excerpt from Sacramento Wrestling Federation, “The Sacramento Wrestling Federation in conjunction with Sound Image Entertainment proudly presents “September 2 Remember” – The Seth Fengel Benefit Show. This special benefit show will feature 8 exciting wrestling matches including our main event as “Big Country” Jody Kristofferson takes on Dylan Drake for the SWF Heavyweight Championship. Proceeds from this event go to the family of Seth Fengel to purchase a headstone for his gravesite.”

Thank you to all who choose to support this very worthy cause. Visit www.sacramentowrestling.com and www.sethfengel.com for more details on the event and the young man to whom this show benefits.”

Why does Josh Edlow, President/Owner of Sacramento Wrestling Federation do these events? He has an amazing story so take a moment to visit his website to learn more about how it all began but here is a quote from Josh, “This is my home, and this community has been so supportive of me throughout my life, that it is time for me to give back.” In 2011, the Sacramento Wrestling Federation will bring this unique fundraising opportunity to local high schools in California’s capital city. “We are excited to bring an innovative, fun filled, action-packed event that will draw the masses and bring much needed attention and funds to ailing youth programs.”

Here are some pictures from their last event “Clash at the Colonial” for the UC Davis Hospital. It was a blast and our boys LOVED it! We hope to see you at the next one..

Our new addition to the Storz Family!

Before going into surgery

Just getting out

Baby boy makes 6! 🙂 We have been awfully busy over here at the Sound Image Entertainment Headquarters. We welcomed our 4th boy Dallin Everette Storz to the world July 20, 2010. He weighed in at 8lbs 5oz and 23 inches long. He came a little earlier than expected but everything worked out beautifully. We have been busy giving all we can to our current clients but have been behind on blogging. Things are getting back in order and we are adjusting to our new little man. Here is our beautiful family, pictures aren’t great but they will do.

We have a lot of new things going on over here so keep checking in to see what new things we have to offer or follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We want to thank all our wonderful clients, friends and family for everything. We couldn’t do what we love without all of you!!

My Best Friends Wedding – Dessert Bar!

Jessica and Mark at the Sacramento LDS Temple

So one of my bestest friends Jessica got married to her very sweet husband Mark May 15th at the Sacramento LDS temple. She then had her Reception later in her moms backyard. We have been friends since High School; I was a loser and she was so cool and opinionated! 😀 I looked and still do look up to her and how she stands up for herself and for what she believes in. We both have very hectic life styles so try to get together once a month with our other bestie Meagen for a girls night. Jess and I can go months without talking and we just pick up where we left off. I love that because I don’t have a lot of time to invest in friendships, unless it’s work related which is good but it’s nice to not be “all work”.

Jessica and Mark at the Sacramento LDS Temple

Jess and Mark wanted a very simple but elegant wedding where they could take the time to enjoy everyone’s company. It was casual but they really took the time to talk to everyone that came to celebrate their big day. She wanted to do a Dessert Bar instead of a formal dinner. Well for those of you that don’t know I LOVE to bake! I may not be the best and I definitely know “Real Professionals” that could do it better but I still enjoy it. So I was in… she tried to be silly and say she was going to do it but I told her I got this! I recruited Brandon’s mom Vivian (one of the most AMAZING women you will ever meet!!!) to help out. Jess and I worked out the menu and Vivian and I got to work. We did it ALL…

Jessica and Mark's Dessert Bar

Jessica and Mark's Dessert Bar

We had mini cheesecakes, cookies (Chocolate chip, lace, strawberry filled heart sugar cookies, Peanut Butter), chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate dipped pretzel chips and shortbread sticks, fruit bowls, mini cupcakes galore (strawberry, chocolate, spice, white), mini brownie bites, mini lemon topped cake and candy. It turned out so pretty if I do say so myself! All these pictures were done by my amateur photographer husband. Brandon enjoys taking pictures from time to time, and no we will NOT be offering photography so no worries! I really enjoyed being a part of her special day. Mark is so good to her and I love Jess as if she was my sister. I love seeing her so happy! Congrats Mark and Jess!!!

Brittany’s Super Sweet 16: NYC Style

Brittany's Sweet 16 invitation

So my (Kami) sister was turning 16 and in April we threw her a party at our house. She is a lucky girl! 😉 I did all the food which was fun, I just love to host parties for our friends and family. Brandon did her invite which is a hobby he loves. Anyways, being in the wedding industry we have LOTS of amazing professional friends. I get to see a lot and learn a lot but the one default is I have seen AMAZING! So it may have been a little overboard but I don’t care. Go big or go home right??!!

Brittany's Sweet 16 party, sacramento

All these amazing pictures were by our beautiful, talented, amazing friend Rachelle with Rachelle Photography. She came to take some pictures and she caught the excitement and goofy-ness of my my sister. I had the sugary sweet, adorable Lisa Marie with the Sweetest Things do her NYC style cake. She blew us all away. She is by far one of our favorites, Brandon isn’t a huge sweets person but he LOVES her cake. My sister is simple and likes white cake with vanilla frosting. Lisa Marie came up with an extraordinary way to accommodate but not be too boring.  SOOO YUMMY! We sent Brit off the get her hair and make-up done by my wonderful friend Holly Meager from Salon on Madison Ave. She has done my hair for years and is always first on my list! All these people were surprises to Brit, she didn’t know about any of it!

We used our new Photo Booth for her party too. It was a hit, most of the kids that came probably have never seen the things they saw. Again she is a lucky girl. 🙂 Here is most the kids and one of her favorite photo booth pictures with her boyfriend:

WHAT AN EVENT!!!! Most don’t realize how close the wedding industry is with each other and how much we work together. Besides the weddings we work together we also have the different associations we are a part of, groups, etc. We actually get the chance to work with other DJ’s often. Kami had the amazing opportunity to Emcee the 10th Annual AfWPi Recognition Gala! The event was a lot of fun. She doesn’t typically Emcee events but actually enjoys it a lot but wants to stick to fashion shows, award shows, etc. Not really weddings, she will leave that to Brandon. 🙂 She had the talented and very sweet Mike Reagan with Mr. DJ Service as the DJ for the evening. He played an awesome variety of music and was so easy to work with. He was right on with everything. Thanks Mike, it was a pleasure.

Now to the decor. Most dream of having everything for their weddings but some budgets are limited. With these events, we have so many wonderful vendors pitching in to help you can’t expect anything but AMAZING! That WOW factor for sure! At the bottom of this post I will list everyone I can remember but here are a few I want to give a shout out to: Darcie with A Dazzling Day by Darcie and Slip of Elegance Chair Covers did a wonderful job as Chair of this committee. We also had beautiful Centerpieces on the array of tables by Shannon with Flourish Designs and Cathy with Visual Impact Designs. Two of our favorites for sure!! These pictures were provided by Jodi with Jodi Yorston Photography and Jeff with Sharpe Photographers. Both very talented photographers. We also got to work with Mike Anderson with Creative Memories Entertainment. He did all the fabulous lighting for this event. It really transformed the already beautiful room. It was just a really great event. Enjoy the pictures:

We were so lucky and blessed to have won 3 awards! We were a part of the team that won 3rd place for the mixer of the year at the Vizcaya Pavilion and Mansion. You can see pictures from this event here. It was a St. Patrick’s Day theme and the Vizcaya rocked the house! All involved won an award. (Little info about the mixers: We have monthly mixers a Venue hosts and other vendors provide other services i.e. DJ, Florist, Linens, Photographer, Videographer, etc. We also have featured businesses for everyone to meet each month to find whos’ new in the industry and what they offer) Congrats Vizcaya!

We also won one of the two Distinguished Service awards. We were so honored to have been recognized. “This award is presented to a company that goes above and beyond what is expected when it provides services for afwpi events.” It was so exciting.

Last but definitely not least Kami won Volunteer of the year award. She was so ecstatic! She was in shock, all she does is helps whenever she can. Brandon is a huge support in that. It was very exciting to be a part of this event and to have been honored with these awards.
